Specifying ClarkWestern’s
MaxTrak™ Slotted Deflection Track or
MaxTrak™ 2D Slotted Deflection & Drift Track systems:

2.3   COMPONENTS

X. Deflection Track

  1. Allow for alternative valued engineered head-of-wall deflection track system using: MaxTrak™ Slotted Deflection Track or MaxTrak™2D Slotted Deflection and Drift Track system manufactured by ClarkWestern Building Systems.
(Designed to eliminate lateral bracing near a traditional deep leg deflection track or to reduce the number of pieces that are used in a double deflection track system. MaxTrak’s one-piece system reduces cost of materials and labor and increases the allowable load due to positive attachments on each side. The slots in the track’s legs are designed for a total allowable vertical movement of 1-1/2 inches (± ¾ inch). The slots in the web for drift, if seismic design is required, are 4” long and spaced at 8” on center, staggered along the length of the member. The MaxTrak2D system must be designed to take the end reaction of the wall studs (point loads) by using the MaxTrak allowable loads chart)

    1. Exterior systems are subject to requirements of code evaluation reports and/or shop drawings with engineering calculations signed and sealed by a registered PE (Professional Engineer).
    2. Design framing system to accommodate deflection of primary building structure and construction tolerances allowing for a [1/2”] [3/4”] deflection gap between the deflection track and the top of wall studs. (Note: Deflection gap to be determined by Engineer of Record)
    3. Minimum Material Thickness: As required by design (The minimum wall stud thickness must be equal to the slotted deflection track thickness.)
    4. Minimum Yield Strength: 33ksi (for 33mils and 43mils systems).
    5. Minimum Yield Strength: 50ksi (for 54mils and up systems).
    6. Leg Length: 2 1/2 inch (63 mm)
