  • Does wallboard install easier with UltraSTEEL™? Why?
    • Yes, there are several reasons that the wallboard attaches easier to UltraSTEEL™.
      1. The dimpled surface grabs the screw and does not allow it to walk.
      2. The dimpled surface also holds the screw tighter so the board does not ridge or pull away.
      3. The v-groove rolled into the flange provides a sight line to split wallboard seams precisely at joints.
      4. The v-groove stiffens the flange eliminating the need to attach wallboard to the weak side first. This eliminates the ridging caused when the board is accidentally attached to the strong side first.
  • If I use 5/8” board on each side, do I get better heights than if I use ½" board on each side?
    • It’s not tested or proven.  All industry tests have been conducted with ½" board as a generic minimum.  A thicker board may produce greater heights, but there have been no tests to substantiate this.
  • What is meant by “sight line for more precise joints”?
    • The sight line is a v-groove rolled into the center of the flange.  This sight line provides a visual reference point to split the wallboard evenly at butt joints.
  • Do I need to use different fasteners?
    • No, UltraSTEEL™ works with all the same tools and fasteners as traditional steel.
  • Can I use a cheaper screw?
    • Always use the lowest cost screw that is needed to meet the specification and performance requirements of the application whether it is a traditional or UltraSTEEL™ framing product.
  • Will I save on labor?  If so, how much?
    • Quantifying labor savings is impossible due to the many variables and complexities of projects.  But, due to easier cutting, faster screw penetration, and improved friction fitting we can safely say that you will see labor savings.
